הזמנה באיור אישי לצורית ואיל

האודי!

טוב, הזנחתי קצת את הבלוג בתקופה האחרונה כי היה עומס די מטורף. אבל רגשות האשמה גברו עליי (וגם קיבלתי תמריץ מיוחד), אז קבלו את תהליך העבודה על ההזמנה המאוירת של צורית ואיל המקסימים!

צורית ואיל הגיעו אליי ממש בדקה ה-90, והיו צריכים הזמנת בזק לחתונה שהלכה והתקרבה. הם רצו הזמנה באיור אישי שמייצגת את האופי והזוגיות שלהם, ומיד שלחו לי סדרת תמונות שהם צילמו במיוחד לצורך ההזמנה. התמונות צולמו במושב תל-עדשים, והן היו כל כך יפות שמיד התמלאתי השראה ולפני ששמתי לב - חמש סקיצות קמו להן לתחייה.

הרעיון של צורית לאיור היה לכלול מגפיים (כי איל רפתן) ונעלי כלה עדינות, וגם את נלה, הכלבה המתוקה שלהם. אז הנה שלוש הסקיצות הראשוניות לאיור ההזמנה:

צריך לזכור שסקיצות ראשוניות תמיד כוללות קווים גסים בשחור לבן, ושאחרי צביעה זה נראה אחרת לגמרי, כפי שמיד תראו. הרעיון של סקיצה ראשונית הוא באמת למצוא את הכיוון של האיור שהכי מתחברים אליו.

בגלל שהתמונות שצורית ואיל שלחו היו יפות כל כך, לא התאפקתי והכנתי להם גם שתי סקיצות שמבוססות על צילום, בנוסף לאיורים:

נכון שהם מהממים? :)

לבסוף הוחלט ללכת באמת על הזמנה מאוירת, והסקיצה שנבחרה הייתה סקיצה מס' 2 (שבהחלט הייתה גם האהובה עליי). עכשיו רק נשאר לצבוע אותה, ולעצב את הצד האחורי בסגנון תואם. מבחינת הסגנון, איירתי את הדמויות עם קווי מתאר עדינים, והוספתי טקסטורות (מברשת מיוחדת לצייר את הדשא, טקסטורה של ג'ינס ותחרה לבגדים). לבסוף באמת יצא איור עשיר וקסום:

בצד האחורי, הוספתי קצת ערמות חציר, טרקטור קטן, וגם כן ציור, כי צורית מטפלת באמנות. וככה זה יצא:

ולבסוף, עיצבתי להם גם מגנט תואם, כי עד שעובדים כל כך קשה על הזמנה אישית שיוצאת מהמם - כדאי שתישאר מזכרת על המקרר של האורחים לכמה שיותר זמן, לא?

אני בטוחה שהייתה חתונה מהממת טובלת בטבע וירוק! מזל טוב, צורית ואיל :)

The Butler Did It!

I've been so busy lately with wedding invitations ('tis the season!) that I've completely neglected my illustrations... and I miss it terribly. So, I decided to post a little walkthrough to an illustration I made a while back, in case any of you are interested to know a little bit about the work process.

Here is the final illustration:

As you can see, my aim was to practice a bit of character design.

It all started when a friend once showed me this following image, with the shapes of Disney's Aladdin characters:

It really made me want to design characters based on different shapes. So with a brand new canvas and my loyal Wacom companion, I jotted down the following shapes:

Then my favorite part - sketching and coming up with interesting features for the characters. The features just kind of flow and I never quite find myself where I expected to be when I finish sketching:

After the sketching, I decided to ink over the lines with the pen tool, which makes the lines much more precise and clean. In retrospect, I could have skipped this stage, as I wasn't planning to keep the contour lines anyway, but never mind. It's always nice to practice my inking:

It's coloring time! Need to choose a nice pallat and make sure all the colors work well together. Basically this is a flat layer of the base colors, which will serve as the basis. I went with dark reds, browns and greens. I actually made a different color layer for each color, which is kind of crazy, but it makes everything much more flexible, as I can play around with the colors until I find the right combination. 

And then the long and exhausting part of adding shading, highlights and textures. I really enjoy this part when working on the character faces, much less when working on their cloths... So you can kind of tell I was losing patience at some point :) And... done!

My favorite part of this drawing is definitely the chubby lady's furry scarf (no animals were hurt while working on this illustration, I assure you!). Least favorite part - the right guy's boots. I get so bored with objects like that...

Ofri & Laity's Beautiful Passport Invitation Set

I'm writing this post in English, since Ofri is Israeli and Laity is French, and I want to appeal to all audiences :)

Ofri and Laity are a totally sweet couple living in France. Since they have two nationalities, they thought about designing their invitation to look like a double-sided passport - one side Israeli and one French. Of course I completely loved the idea, and couldn't wait to start playing around with the design!

Since it is a wedding, after all, and we needed a nice wedding-y look, Ofri and Laity decided that the background colour of the passport will be white (Israeli passports are blue and French are reddish-brown). So here is how the outside of the invitation came out:

So far, so good...

Now, since Ofri and Laity are actually having TWO weddings (one in Israel and one in France... wow!) there was a LOT of text. Too much text... So much text, that they decided on another great idea - all the invitation text will go on a separate card, which will be designed to look like a boarding pass. This couple is really taking us around the world with them!

So now that we had the inner side of the passport text-free, they asked it to include a map with significant things that happened to them around the world. The bottom part is like a real passport, with a picture and all the important information :)

And just to show off a little, here's what a little work in Photoshop can do to an image :)

Gorgeous, ha? This invitation really tells their story, which I think is fabulous, as it makes it all the more personal.

So now we started working on the boarding pass. Since all the text had to appear both in Hebrew and in French, we decided to make the boarding pass double-sided, and have each language on a different side. This is how it came out:

Fun fact - in France (as in other places in the world, not in Israel though) the couple chooses colours for the wedding beforehand, and they need to notify their guests of the chosen colours in the invitation, so people can dress accordingly. The colours Ofri and Laity chose were pink and green, and so I made a little box with pink and green hearts.

The last thing we had to do is design a small additional card, inviting some of the guests for a special brunch. I thought it would be cute to make the card look like a tiny ticket card, like the ones they used to attach to suitcases back in the old days. This little card is also double-sided, one side in Hebrew and one in French:

And that's it!

הזמנה באיור אישי ליואב ודינה

יואב ודינה הם זוג מתוק ומיוחד. כשדינה דיברה איתי לראשונה על ההזמנה, היה לה רעיון לאיור - יואב הוא בחור די גבוה, והיא חשבה על איור שלה עומדת על סולם לידו. כמובן שמיד ביקשתי תמונות כדי להתחיל לעבוד ולראות מה יוצא  (תמיד יוצאות הפתעות בסוף!). למרות שהם שלחו לי כמה תמונות, ישר התאהבתי בתמונה הזו:

החלטתי להשתמש בה כרפרנס לאיור, והתחלתי לעבוד על סקיצה ראשונית, שנראתה משהו כזה:

כן, מה לעשות. ככה זה נראה בהתחלה. הכל מתחיל מקו מקושקש אחד :)
לאחר הסקיצה התחלתי לצבוע ולהוסיף פרטים:

ואפילו עשינו ניסיון בצבע כחול, לראות איך זה יוצא:

לבסוף הוחלט לחזור לירוק, והיו לדינה ויואב כמה רעיונות נוספים - להבליט את המשקפיים (ששניהם לובשים בד"כ), להפוך את הסולם לערימת ספרים (שקיבלו כותרים של ספרים אהובים עליהם), וטאץ' מתוק אחרון - להוסיף לבקבוק היין את הכיתוב "בציר 2005" מאחר וזו השנה שבה הם נפגשו. התוצאה הסופית יצאה פשוט מתוקה לגמרי:

כרגיל, היה כיף לעבוד על ההזמנה הזו (אני תמיד מתאהבת בחדש בכל זוג ובכל הזמנה).
יואב ודינה - שיהיו חיים מגניבים ומלאי אושר (וספרים) :)

הזמנה מאוירת אישית - קרן ולב

טוב, הסיבה שלא פרסמתי כבר תקופה לא מעטה היא פשוט בגלל העומס המטורף של הזמנות שיש כרגע (שזה טוב, אני לא מתלוננת :)). אבל סוף סוף החלטתי להתיישב ולכתוב על החוויה הכיפית שלי עם קרן ולב, זוג מקסים שחי בצרפת ורצה הזמנה באיור אישי. 

אלה הם קרן ולב המ-ק-ס-י-מ-י-ם:

הם זוג חמוד, שובבי וכיפי, וביקשו הזמנה שתתאים לאופי המדליק שלהם. כנקודת הכוונה, הם  love is שלחו לי תמונות מקומיקס של פעם שנקרא
והנה תמונה לדוגמא שהם מאוד אהבו:

מיד התיישבתי והכנתי להם ארבע סקיצות, כדי להקל עליהם את בחירת הסגנון שהם מעדיפים.
.הסקיצות הראשוניות הן רק לבחירת סגנון ולכן הן די גסות, עם קווים וצביעה לא מדויקים

ואחרון חביב, איור מתוק בסגנון הקומיקס שהם אהבו:

קרן ולב מיד ענו (עם תשובה כל כך מפרגנת שזה חימם לי את הלב!) ואמרו שלמרות שהיו דברים שהם אהבו בכל אחת מהסקיצות, הם החליטו ללכת על הסקיצה הרביעית, שתופסת באופן הכי טוב את השובבות שלהם כזוג. ברגע שנסגרנו על סקיצה, התחלתי את תהליך הצביעה, שהוא תהליך שיש בו המון פרטים (צבע בסיסי, הצללות, הברקות, טקסטורה) ולהלן התוצאה הסופית:

לאחר שסיימנו לעבוד על הצד הקדמי (עם תיקונים אחרונים), קרן ולב שלחו לי את נוסח הטקסט, בעברית וברוסית.
ההזמנה היא הזמנה נפתחת, שזה אחלה פתרון כשרוצים לכתוב בשתי שפות. והנה היא לפניכם ההזמנה הסופית, עם הצד החיצוני והפנימי:

איזה כיף, קרן ולב היו מרוצים ומאושרים (וגם אני כמובן!). היה ממש כיף לעבוד על ההזמנה הזו, ובסוף יצא סט נהדר ששלחתי להם:

קרן ולב - תודה על כל הפרגון, באמת שהיה תענוג לעבוד אתכם!
מאחלת לכם ים של אושר וחתונה מדהימה!

Tomer's Bar-Mitzva Invitation

נגוון עם פוסט בעברית הפעם...

בר-מצווה זה תמיד אירוע מרגש. עלייה לתורה, קריאת הפרשה בקול רועד, וכמובן - פיתוח חסינות למטר סוכריות טופי שנזרק עליך בלהט השמחה מעזרת הנשים (עדיין עושים את זה?). תומר דרעי, בן של בן דוד יקר, חוגג בר מצווה בסוף החודש, ולאור המאורע - הכנתי הזמנה מאוירת וחגיגית. 

התחלתי עם הנחיות שתומר מאוד אוהב רכיבה על אופניים וכדורסל, ועם התמונה המגניבה הבאה שלו:

החלטתי ללכת על שילוב צבעים של כחול וכתום (כדורסל) ולעשות איור של תומר בסגנון ריאליסטי. כלומר - מאוד נאמן לתמונת המקור. את האיור עשיתי בפוטושופ, עם הוואקום הנאמן שלי. נותר רק לעצב את ההזמנה, לצבוע, להוסיף טקסט וטקסטורות (שיהיה מעניין) ו- טה-דה! ההזמנה מוכנה והנה היא לפניכם:

15th Birthday Snowy Pop-up Card

This just in - I've discovered the wonderful world of scrapbooking. Not very common in Israel but apparently very popular in the States - this paper crafting art completely won me over. I'll leave a great link for tutorials at the end of this post, but first - how I made a pretty pop-up birthday card for my baby sister's 15th birthday. Here we go...

So because it's December, what with Christmas and the stormy weather and the end of the world (which has respectfully declined its attendance) and all, I decided to make a magical snowy card to match the wonderful chilly atmosphere.

I began with cutting out two cards - a white one to serve as an exterior, and a dark blue one for the background of the inside snowy scene:

Next I marked the pop-up squares which would serve as a basis for my scene. I traced them in with a light pencil, but highlighted the marks in this picture to make them more visible for this tutorial (by the way, it's ok if the pencil marks show, as we're going to glue objects over these boxes anyhow):

And once I cut the side lines and folded the card, it looked like this:

I've decided that my snowy scene would involve two sets of snowy-roofed houses. I cut out the basic shapes out of blank cardboards (a black one for the back, and a light blue one for the front). The I cut out snow from a white textured paper, and glued it onto the roof-tops. To finish it off, I drew in windows with gold and silver pens. Finally, I cut another piece of textured paper with decorative swirls, and glued it on the foreground layer, to add a bit of spark to it.

Now it was time to start decorating the card itself, creating an interesting background. I cut two  patterned papers as wavy decorations for the sky, and punched in stars using a cute little star puncher.

I also drew in stitch-like  and swirly marks with my silver pen. Once the bottom was also decorated accordingly, it looked like this:

I wanted to make a cut-out of the number 15 to stand behind the building, and cut it out of a turquoise patterned paper to add some brighter color to the card. I glued the numbers on to a black cardboard background, and decorated it a bit more with my silver pen.

It's gluing time! Putting all the pieces together...

This whole scene was inserted into the white card (remember it from the beginning?). Now the inside is finished! Ta-da:

The last thing was created an outside decoration, which I made using the same patterned papers, textures and colors as the inner part. And voila, we're done!
